What is BaselWorld?

The entire city of Basel is gearing up for the greatest annual edition of BaselWorld. For those who are new to the show, it is the biggest watch and jewellery fair in the world, showcasing all of the most influential industry players and defining trends for the next 12 months.

2017 will mark 100 years since BaselWorld’s inaugural trade show back in 1917, when the opening of the first Schweizer Mustermesse Basel (muba), took place.  Unlike other industry shows, BaselWorld is the only fair where all the watch and jewellery players meet: large brands, up-and-coming designers, buyers and distributors, stone suppliers, machinery companies, global press and spectators! With about 1,500 brands and an estimated 150,000 visitors, we expect nothing short of spectacular from BaselWorld 2017.

Predictions & Trends

A watch trend to look out for in BaselWorld 2017 is inside-out, mechanical and “skeletonizing” watches, that pique the interest of the most curious horologists.

Sporty and classic watches are always a winning combo, as trends lean towards watches that can be worn as easily by day as by night. And expect a lot more in the way of smartwatches, as this fad is unlikely to go anywhere.

But best of all is the presentation of all of these jewellery delights, as every exhibitor booth tells its unique tale with the most exquisite displays of each brand image.

BaselWorld’s list of exhibitors is too long to mention, but Bulgari, Breguet, Hermès, Frederique Constant, Carl F. Bucherer, Harry Winston and Rolex have some trendsetting new models that you must not miss on your visit.
